In 2019, Climate Action Menston, St John’s Parish Church and other partners launched a local business climate action scheme across Menston. Its aim is to encourage small businesses to consider their own working practices and how these may be altered to reduce pollution, energy consumption, and enhance the environment of Menston and beyond.
Some businesses signed up before Covid-19 put a halt to the roll-out, but now the scheme is relaunching with renewed vigour to ensure that all the Menston local businesses are asked if they wish to participate by pledging just a few ways that their own practices will change over the next year.
In return for pledges, businesses receive a certificate to display which lists their pledged changes for their customers to see, and a window sticker to publicise their participation and therefore their eco-credentials.
Local businesses signed up so far include:
- Beau Beauty Boutique
- Coty and Madison Ltd
- DIY Dave
- Henderson and Cooper
- Home Instead Senior Care
- Leap Into Languages
- Menston Preschool
- Powergym
- Slimming World Menston
- St John’s Parish Church
- The Housekeeper Team
Other businesses are expected to join soon.
It is hoped that eventually, there will be events to thank local businesses for their support and participation, continue to build links across the community, and to further educate all of us in the constant need to be thinking and rethinking all of our processes and working habits.
